MAINTAIN YOUR SKIS

Maintaining your skis is essential to ensure good glide and to increase the longevity of the equipment. Find out how to do this and benefit from the expertise of our teams in our Paris shop.

Sharpening the skis

The easiest way to maintain your edges is to use a sharpener. The interest will be the choice of the file (more or less aggressive) but also the choice of the sharpening angle of the edge.

In order for your edges to catch on the snow, it will be necessary to keep an angle of 90° or less.

By sharpening both sides of the edge (the sole side, called the drop side, and the edge side) you can play with the inclination of each side. So many possibilities to adapt the inclination to your practice.

Sharpening is carried out along the entire length of the edge so that uniform wear is created because on modern skis the entire length of the edge is used for turning. It is advisable to sharpen your edges by pulling towards you rather than pushing, as it is not recommended to push hard on the file to avoid damaging your ski.

Waxing your skis

Waxing your skis is a very important step in the preparation of your skis. It improves gliding on the snow and protects your sole. In the same way as for a repair, it is imperative to clean the sole before starting and to work in the direction of the glide. (Spatula > heel)

Melt the wax into droplets all along your ski by putting it in contact with the soleplate of the iron. Slowly spread the wax with the iron over the entire surface of the soleplate (from the spatula to the heel). Be careful not to leave the wax iron too long in one place for too long or to leave it immobile on your skis so as not to damage them irreparably. The advantage of this type of wax is its durability and effectiveness.

There are several methods for waxing a ski (hot, liquid, powder, pencil).

You will see that there is also a multitude of waxes depending on the temperature (cold snow, spring…) but also on the practices (leisure or competition). Nevertheless you can always opt for a universal wax for more simplicity.
